Give The Gift of Truth This Holiday Season

With a nod of the head to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, we wanted to pass along a very handy crib sheet of responses they’ve provided for the the Republican lies and distortions that may have accidentally been perceived as the truth by your Parents, Grandparents, Aunts or Uncles.

MDP Leadership to Vote on Lowering Membership Age

At it’s State Central Committee meeting this weekend in Benton Harbor, the Michigan Democratic Party will be voting on a proposed change to its bylaws that will allow 16 to 18 year old individuals to become state party members.

By doing so we hope to capitalize on the successes Democrats had in organizing and mobilizing the youth vote in 2008, and support a more inclusive view of the youth political perspective in our state party.

To commemorate this event, we hope to inaugurate a special group of twenty-five young Democrats into the Michigan Democratic Party at our meeting.

Sign up here today to have your name included in this inaugural class!

Democrats Win Municipal Elections Across Michigan

Via The Michigan Democratic Party

Michigan Democrats did very well in municipal elections all across Michigan on November 3rd. Mayoral and City Council candidates backed by the Michigan Democratic Party won 65% of their races, or 44 out of 68. Ballot questions supported by the MDP such as the Kalamazoo antidiscrimination ordinance and the Macomb County Charter also passed overwhelmingly.

“For several cycles, we have been actively and successfully involved in local elections in the off-year,” said MDP Chair Mark Brewer. “Not only has this work helped to elect good Democrats to local office, but it has also built a ‘farm team’ of individuals to run for higher office.”

“This year, our candidates knocked on over 100,000 doors, handed out or mailed over 50,000 pieces of literature, and used modern campaign tools such as the voter file and the Internet more effectively than ever,” continued Brewer. “We are also proud of our support for the historic Kalamazoo ordinance and the reforms the new Macomb County Charter will bring.”

Vote Today! Polls Open 7AM-8PM

Today, as we look back upon the immense amount of work we all did just over a year ago, keep in mind the progress we hope to continue by supporting Democrats across the state today. Check here for voter information and don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you need help finding a polling location.

From Jay Gage’s campaign for City Commission in Sault Ste. Marie, MI up north to Kevin English’s campaign for Van Buren Schools’ Board of Education down here in the south (both as candidates under the age of 25, no less!) to candidates a bit older than us but who will represent our ideas such as Marty Griffin, who is running for the State Senate seat vacated when our hard work sent Mark Schauer to the US House of Representative, there’s plenty going on in this election and many amazing progressive candidates to support.

Please take time out of your busy day to make your voice known and to support those candidates who will walk alongside us in the path to making our towns, counties and states the places we know they can be.
