“Are You Registered to Vote?”

RSVP for an event near you

Remember how much fun we all had in 2008 registering voters across the nation, in our neighborhoods and at our schools? Yes? Good. We can relive it here, and now. During the weekend of July 17th, volunteers across the country will be registering people to vote as part of Organizing for America’s July 17th Day of Action. We’ll  be gathering on street corners, at coffee shops, and in playgrounds and parks, asking people who walk by a simple question: “Are you registered to vote in the fall?”

This question had profound implications in 2008 and can make the difference this November’s elections. And we need you to make sure it gets asked.

Can you host an event? Organizing for America will provide materials to help you have a successful event. You’ll need to find a high-traffic area in your community for the voter drive.

We’ve accomplished a lot in just the last 17 months, but there’s still much left to do. In 2008, voter registration and turnout was key to our victory, with more than 15 million new voters entering the political process. Now, in 2010, voter registration will be key to ensuring that President Obama has as many congressional allies as possible next year.

And, for everyone at Organizing for America and the MDP Youth Caucus, that means making the July 17th Day of Action as big as possible.

Can you host a Voter Registration event?

YDA Announces High School Leadership Academy

As you may know, we fought, successfully to lower the membership age for the Michigan Democratic Party to 16 this year – with the specific mindset of increasing the engagement we have as young progressives with young progressives in high school across the state. In that spirit, we wanted to pass along what looks to be an amazing opportunity for High School aged democrats. Applications are due June 2nd.

via the Young Democrats of America:

We are excited to announce the first ever Young Democrats of America High School Leadership Academy on July 18 – 21 in Washington, D.C.  This unique four-day summer camp will focus on developing the next generation of YDA leaders and progressive activists.

We’re going to be represented there, but we wanted to you to join us!
