Interested in Working on A Campaign?

UPDATED: Signup Deadline Extended Until May 12th!

via The Young Democrats of America and The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee:

It is 2010 – and it is campaign season again. We all worked hard in 2008 to create the majorities we have in Congress and elect our President, Barack Obama. The time to protect our majority has arrived. We need to make sure that we keep the House blue so we can continue to pass legislation that matters to middle class Americans. Building strong field programs in districts across the country is crucial in 2010.

Join the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee for a Field Organizer Training in your region of the country throughout the months of May and June. This training is for applicants who are interested in gaining the skills to organize communities for Democrats in Congressional Districts around the county.

To attend, you must Apply Now at http://www.dccc.org/fieldorganizertraining by Friday, May 7th

The Midwest training will take place at:

IBEW Local 683, 23 W 2nd Avenue, Columbus, OH on May 22nd from 8:30AM – 8:30PM

The training will cover:

  • The Best Practices of Organizing
  • Working With The Other Departments of A Campaign
  • Volunteer Management (& Recruitment)
  • Training on the VAN & Other Field Management Software

Field Organizers on are the most important element of a successful field program. They are the prime point of contact between a campaign and prospective voters. Organizers are responsible for recruiting and managing volunteers, voter contact, and overall execution of the field program in a defined area. In addition, field organizers are responsible for recording results, cutting turf, and training volunteers on the field program. They are responsible for coaching and motivating volunteers, who are the engine of the field program. Field Organizers must have strong leadership skills plus the ability and desire to work with people.  Most importantly, they have to have the desire to win and do whatever it takes!

Applicants will be notified regarding space availability  by Wednesday May 12 and are considered on a first come, first serve basis.

Congratulations are deserved!

On behalf of the entire leadership of the Michigan Democratic Party’s Youth Caucus we wanted to take a second to congratulate the students, educators, administrators, and support staff of Kalamazoo Central High School in Kalamazoo, MI as the winner of the White House’s 2010 Race to the Top High School Commencement Challenge.

Today: Vote 2010 Strategy Session with David Plouffe

Via Organizing for America:

Please join progressives across the nation in a kickoff strategy session for the 2010 elections online, today at 4:30 PM to outline Organizing for America’s plan to win in 2010.

One of the people in the room for the Strategy Session will be Aswani, a student at the University of Maryland and a first-time voter in 2008. Early in 2007, he was inspired and driven to volunteer by then-Senator Obama’s vision. Aswani has already committed to vote again in 2010. But there are millions of voters just like him — and we need to make sure they’re just as motivated.

Today’s session will be a special insider briefing you won’t want to miss — you’ll get details on what OFA’s planning for the midterm elections and how you can help candidates fighting for change.

RSVP now — or tune in here today at 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time:

Read This Speech: President Obama Speaks to Michigan Graduates

In his speech to over 85,000 today at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor (one of the largest crowds he has addressed since the Inauguration in January of 2009), President Barack Obama encouraged those graduating and those in attendance to commit their time in service of their nation and their communities, consider opposing viewpoints by listening to others rather than taking information from one source, and not be turned off by the grating tone of political discussion in America right now, saying: “Before we get too depressed about the current state of our politics, let’s remember our history. The great debates of the past all stirred great passions. They all made somebody angry, and at least once led to a terrible war. What is amazing is that despite all the conflict, despite all its flaws and its frustrations, our experiment in democracy has worked better than any form of government on Earth.”

It is this steadfast commitment to our democracy, and furthermore, to making our world a better place that emboldens us as young progressives to go out there and use our abilities to help our cities, our state and our nation be all that it can – and we urge every member of our Caucus and the citizens of America at large to take time to read this speech and take it passionately to heart.
