FLINT - At a meeting of its Executive Board, the Michigan Democratic Party Youth Caucus appointed Cia Segerlind as Executive Vice Chair and Angela Powell as Officer At Large.
"We're at a long overdue point in our history where the youth of America will have a significant and decisive voice in the election of our next President," said Segerlind. "I'm confident this enthusiasm will translate into a great year for Democrats in Michigan and throughout the country."
"Youth involvement is critical for the 2008 election year and for years to come," said Powell, "not only to get youth activists out to support Democratic candidates, but to strive hard for a plan of action to get young people to the polls."
In addition to the appointments of Segerlind and Powell, Chris Stergalas will join the Executive Board of the Caucus as Vice Chair for College Democrats. Stergalas was recently elected President of the Michigan Federation of College Democrats.
"It is likely that if the youth vote continues to be as strong in November as it has been in many of the primaries, then Democrats will be victorious," said Stergalas, "It is our job as youth leaders, to increase voter turnout this November to help ensure that Democrats win across the board this fall."
